ORDERS. Write plainly and give explicit directions as to address and mode of shipment, whether by freight, express, etc.

Orders are accepted and all shipment made subject to delays or inability to ship or deliver by reason or on account of strikes, accidents, droughts, fire, floods, frost, hail, sleet, war conditions and orders, railroad or express embargoes, priority or other transportation orders, prior sale of stock, stock shortage, labor or car shortage, or any other cause or causes for delay in shipment or delivery of goods which are beyond our control.

Due to general conditions of weather, possible labor shortage and other contin¬ gencies, during the digging and shipping season, we do not guarantee to fill all items of an order or orders placed with us in one or first shipment.

GUARANTEE AND CLAIMS. In growing and furnishing all Nursery stock, we exercise the utmost diligence and care to have it true to name and will, on proper proof, within one year from date to our satisfaction, replace in ordered sizes any that will prove otherwise or refund the amount paid. IN MAKING ALL SHIPMENTS WE CAREFULLY CONSIDER CONDITIONS IN GENERAL AND ACT ACCORDINGLY.

ALL SHIPMENTS AT PURCHASER'S RISK.

All Accounts, 30 days net cash, except Spring Accounts with Wholesale Nursery Trade which are due on June 1st, of same year.

Fall Accounts with Wholesale Nursery Trade which are due on December 1st, of same year.

2% Discount allowed on accounts if paid within 10 days from date of shipment.

3% Discount allowed if remittance accompanies order.

Where remittance accompanies order same should cover total amount computed at list prices of goods ordered without deducting discount.

Such remittances will be considered payment on account, subject to cash discount. Our invoices will show entire transaction showing price of plants, packing charges, prepaid express or freight, or delivery charges, also discount for cash with order will be applied on invoice as soon as goods are shipped, or delivered, as the case may be.

The condition may arise where the entire amount of all invoices for stock shipped will be less than the amount, or amounts remitted, in which case the unearned portion of remittances will be refunded as soon as the shipping season is over and our books and accounts have been properly audited, if not before.

Payments for partial shipments shall be due on basis of Invoice dating.

Accounts after due dates are subject to sight draft, also interest charge at rate of 6% per annum.

All will be shown on invoices, and in case of over-payment by remittance for goods actually sent proper refund will be made of unearned portion of remittance, as soon as our shipping season is over and books and accounts have been properly audited, if not before.

GENERAL PRICE LIST, 1939

TREES

All stock has been transplanted at least once and all of our twice transplanted trees as noted below are spaced in the nursery rows and have a splendid top and root development. Each tree is a fine specimen and should not under any circumstances be compared with the ordinary nursery run stock of once transplanted trees as listed in most catalogs.

Let us quote you on your list of wants. In carload lots we can make you better prices on many items we have in surplus.

PERENNIALS

FIELD GROWN. ONE YEAR, EXCEPT WHERE NOTED.

TRANSPLANTED STOCK.

Let us quote you on your list of wants. In large quantities we can make you better prices on many items we have in surplus.

We are frequently asked for general information in regard to proper planting times of perennials.

Perennials as a general rule, with the exception of those that love water, thrive best on good garden soil, well drained, and especially good surface drainage, so that no excessive moisture or water accumulates in beds in winter, which with changeable frost action is detrimental.

As a general rule, perennials are best moved during September, October and up to frozen ground time in the Fall, and then again in Spring, beginning with the time when the first shoots begin to show green on perennials; and from that time up into May until too much foliage and hot days terminate successful planting.

Iris of various sorts transplant particularly well shortly after blooming time, when they can be divided and pruned back for new plantings.

Peonies are best transplanted at any time during the Fall months, even up into cold weather; but if Spring planted, move them as early in Spring as possible.

Mulching perennial beds in colder climates should be done with material such as dry straw, hay, oak leaves, but never with leaves from soft wood trees, or fertilizer, or grass clippings, such as will pack down and not allow the air to reach plants. The latter environment generally creates a heating and rotting condition, and produces a loss whether in the first or in subsequent years after planting. Apply mulch only after frost has entered the ground to depth of several inches.

Perennials also like an occasional application of good garden fertilization if soil is sour, but apply with caution. If the ground is sour, apply limestone screenings (size one-eighth inch to dust) liberally before applying fertilizer.

Varieties marked with a (-^) are particularly adapted for the rock garden.

Varieties marked with a ( £ ) are suitable for waterside planting and damp places.

Varieties marked with a ( ^ ) are good ground covers.
